Upgrade Great Plains 8.0 to Dynamics GP 10

This article describes the steps to upgrade a Great Plains 8.0 application running on top of SQL Server 2000 into Dynamics GP 10 running on top of SQL Server 2005.

  1. Back up Dynamics database & company database from SQL Server 2000
  2. Restore Dynamics database & company database to SQL Server 2005
  3. In SQL Server 2005,  SQL Management Studio, select the properties of every database and change the compatibility level to SQL Server 2005 (90).
  4. Install Dynamics GP 9.0 + SP3
  5. Run Dynamics GP 9.0 utilities and upgrade the dynamics & the company databases
  6. Install Dynamics GP 10.0 + SP3
  7. Run Dynamics GP 10.0 utilities and upgrade the dynamics & company databases
  8. Make sure you have enough space & memory on the machine that you are using for the upgrade.
